Croatian Association for International Studies
Founded in April 1999 at the Faculty of Political Science with the aim of bringing together and connecting students, postgraduates, researchers and future researchers of international studies through symposia, lectures, seminars, congresses, research projects or through cooperation with similar associations and organizations abroad. The Association numbers about 200 members, among them 20 PhDs and 30 MAs. The membership structure due to the quantity and the quality of its expertise in the field of international relations and studies enables the Association to be a think tank that can offer Croatia appropriate international-political solutions. The HUMS is an associate member of the International Studies Association (ISA) with the headquarters in the USA. The Association consists of the following bodies: the Assembly, the Board, the President and the Auditing Committee. Acting president of the association is Professor Radovan Vukadinović, and vice-presidents are Professor Vlatko Mileta and Professor Siniąa Tatalović.
In 2000, Centar za međunarodne studije (CMS) (Centre for International Studies) was founded within the Association. The CMS carried out researches in the field of international political and economic relations, international security, foreign policy and comparative politics. Special attention is given to the studies of the relations in Southeast Europe, in Central Europe and in the Mediterranean. The CMS publishes Working Papers, the draft and the preliminary versions of research papers. Some of these papers are later published in journals and books in Croatia and abroad in a more complete and systematic form. Four issues of Working Papers have so far been published.
R. Vukadinović: "Security Challenges from the Mediterranean"
S. Tatalović: "Ethnic Aspects of Security and Stability in Southeast Europe"
L. Čehulić: "Euro-Atlantic Security Relations after the Cold War"
F. Turek: "Croatian Foreign Policy and Its Priorities in the Transitional Period"
The HUMS and the CMS publish "Međunarodne studije"("International Studies"), a journal for international relations, foreign policy and diplomacy. The editorial board is made up of Croatian experts, led by Professor Radovan Vukadinović, and of the editorial board from abroad, with eminent foreign experts in international relations. The Collective Work for the year 2000 and issues 1 and 2-3 for the year 2001 have been published so far.
The Association cooperates with the Faculty of Political Science, the Atlantic Council of Croatia, the National Minority Council of the Republic of Croatia and with other associations, institutions and organizations at home (Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Internal Affairs) and abroad which promote democratization.
